Thalamus: As you can see from the picture the Thalamus is located at the center of the brain. This is where information is passed on to the appropriate brain region for processing. It is said to be the "sensory gatekeeper." It receives information from around the body, then passes it on to the appropriate parts of the brain.
Hypothalamus: Is located next to the thalamus. This is where blood levels of glucose, salt, blood pressure, and hormones are monitored. It knows what temperature your body should be at, and is your brain's thermostat. For instances if your body is too hot the hypothalamus will tell your body to sweat. If your body is too cold, it will make you shiver. These both are strategies at getting your body to a normal temperature.
Amygdala: Is located in the temporal lobe. This part is centered around aggression, fear, anxiety, sexual behaviors, eating, drinking, and emotions.
Hippocampus: Is located beneath the thalamus. This part of the brain deals with memory, emotions as well, and learning.
